The Beginning - 2007

Our derelict cottage nestles below a bank covered in brambles. From the veranda of our house, all we can see is the chimney with the aerial still on top.

It has no roof and no first floor. We look up through the rafters, past the aerial to the sky.

All the windows are broken and the shutters are hanging off. Electric cabling hangs from the broken rafters and saplings grow up through the debris on the floor. There is a smashed television in what was the kitchen. The chimney and fireplace are scorched and there are cracks up the walls.

Yet this is one of the reasons why we bought our house. We loved the idea that one day we would create out of this ruin a place where friends could stay.

What a brave decision to take on a derelict shell.. and how rewarding it must have been when you finished it - but let's not jump the gun..
