Making the Bathroom Window

One of our aims is to have a cottage that can be used easily by anyone who is disabled. So we plan to have a large, easily accessible downstairs bathroom off the hallway.

The back door of the cottage opened onto where we plan to have the bathroom. So the door has had to go - but not completely. It's being converted into a window for the bathroom.

The old doorway had a broken wooden lintel and needed to be replaced. The joy of this build is being able to re-use existing materials. The old stone step, worn by many footsteps up into the hayloft above has become the lintel to the new bathroom window.

The old back door, with its wooden lintel and the stone step above into the hayloft . . .

The new downstairs bathroom window, with its stone lintel made from the step to the hayloft . . .
