The Ground Floor Walls Go Up

The bricks are very red and very modern. But once covered with render and plaster, they will be fine for the new walls for the ground floor that will divide the hallway from the lounge and the new downstairs bathroom.

For the kitchen wall, we wanted to do something special. We'd hoped to use the original blocks, but they were too soft, so the builders dismantled the retaining wall at the back of the house, which held back the bank and took the stones from there. (We'll use other stones for the retaining wall.)

The new kitchen wall will look splendid, with its fine square blocks framing the doorway.
